I’m Dan Canella, a photographer based in San Luis Obispo, California.
My work focuses on circus, aerial, movement, and performance arts. As someone who practices aerial myself, I’m especially interested in the split-second details that make a performance work: the line of a body in the air, the tension before a release, the relationship between performer and apparatus, and the way stage light turns movement into spectacle.
I photograph performers with an emphasis on dramatic light, saturated color, bold composition, and peak motion. My goal is to create images that feel theatrical, alive, and true to the energy of the performance, while honoring the hundreds or thousands of hours of practice behind each seemingly effortless moment.
